Privacy Policy

Last updated October 26, 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains what data stays strictly on your device when you use Clefway and what standard technical data may be processed when our web pages are delivered to your browser.

1. Sheet music files, filenames, and extracted notes stay in your browser

When you open a score file (.musicxml, .xml, .mxl, .pdf, .png, .jpg, or .webp) in the Sheet Music Transposer, reading, optical music recognition (OMR), transposition, Guitar TAB generation, and PDF/MusicXML export all happen locally inside your browser tab.

Clefway never transmits your score files, filenames, or extracted musical notes to our servers, nor are they sent to any analytics, error-reporting, or advertising service. The application does not persistently store your scores or use them to train AI models. Any PDF or MusicXML file you choose to download is saved directly to your own device and remains on your device until you delete it.

To engrave notation and recognize PDF/photo scores locally, your browser downloads static program assets hosted on our website (such as the open-source Verovio WebAssembly library and our clefway-omr.onnx recognition model). Those asset downloads are standard HTTP GET requests and never contain your score content.

2. Microphone audio stays on your device

All audio processing for the metronome and instrument tuners runs locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Microphone audio is analyzed in real time in memory and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted over the network.

3. No user accounts

You do not need an account to use Clefway. We do not ask for your name, email address, or login credentials to use the tools. If you email us directly, we use your email address and message only to respond to your inquiry.

4. Website hosting, CDN, and technical request metadata

While Clefway never receives your sheet music files or microphone audio, delivering any website over the internet involves standard technical metadata. Our static hosting and content delivery network (CDN) provider (such as Cloudflare Pages) automatically processes:

  • Items processed: IP address, HTTP request URL and timestamp, referrer header, browser/OS user-agent string, security/firewall cookies where required for bot/abuse mitigation, and your language preference stored locally in your browser (localStorage key clefway_lang).
  • Purpose: Serving static web pages and WebAssembly/model assets, network routing, caching, performance optimization, and protecting the site against malicious traffic (such as DDoS attacks).
  • Retention and processors: Processed by our hosting/CDN infrastructure in accordance with their security log retention schedules, which may involve edge servers located outside your country (including the United States and European Union).

5. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

Clefway's music tools currently set no tracking or analytics cookies. If we display banner advertising (such as Google AdSense) or aggregate traffic measurement in the future to keep the tools free, third-party ad or analytics providers may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, and device/browser identifiers to display ads, limit ad frequency, and measure performance.

Where required by applicable law (including in the United Kingdom under PECR/UK GDPR, the European Economic Area under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, and Korea under PIPA), we will present a prior consent mechanism before any non-essential advertising or analytics storage is accessed or set, and update this policy with the specific third-party recipients and opt-out controls. Even if advertising scripts are enabled on the site, they have no access to your opened score files, filenames, extracted notes, or microphone audio.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights regarding personal data (such as the right to request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of processing, or to withdraw consent to non-essential cookies). Because we do not collect user accounts or store uploaded scores, we generally hold no personal profile on visitors beyond standard hosting security logs or any email correspondence you send us.
